Emmi Pakkanen is a Finnish contemporary textile artist and visual designer. Since graduating with a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University in 2015, she has worked across the fields of textile art and surface design, both in Finland and internationally.

Pakkanen describes herself as an archaeologist of forms and surfaces, combining the instincts of an artist with the methodology of a designer. Her artistic practice explores the interplay of shape, surface, material, and colour, with a particular focus on the transformative qualities of textiles.

Her works are primarily created using hand-knotting techniques rooted in the tradition of the modern rya, alongside contemporary and experimental forms of hand embroidery. Through these techniques, Pakkanen investigates texture, rhythm, colour, and the relationship between structure and surface, creating distinctive textile works and visual worlds of her own.

Pakkanen actively exhibits her work in galleries and museums.
